1. Introduction

EVA modifier is a multifunctional derivative of enoic acid. It can be used as a foaming aid for rubber and plastics. It has an excellent effect on improving the bridging density of finished products and shortening the foaming time and temperature of products.

2. What is an EVA modifier?

EVA modifier is a multifunctional derivative of enoic acid, which can be used as a foaming aid for rubber and plastics. It has an excellent effect on improving the bridging density of finished products and shortening the foaming time and temperature of products. EVA modifier is also applied as a cleaning agent to prepare polymers such as resin, plastic, film, or rubber; it forms a unique mixture with water to clean materials by dispersing it into a thin layer onto the surface including surface dirt, water-repellent film coating, etc.; it removes molding residue from hard surfaces or surfaces which have been subjected to chemical or physical pollution; EVA modifier does not harm nor alter the structure nor functionality of any materials, and does not harm wood or paper.
Two important qualities are required for fabricating EVA modifier:
  • needle-like shape that can penetrate surface when coated with water;
  • extra-virgin source is required for fabricating EVA modifier: natural sources such as pine sap should be avoided because of its heavy smell. However, artificial sources such as sawdust from saws can also be used; natural sources such as cotton seeds may contain a small number of toxic substances but are still edible due to their high nutritional value (e.g., vitamins A, B12).

3. How does EVA modifier work?

EVA modifier is a multipurpose derivative of enoic acid, which is used as a foaming aid for rubber and plastics. It has an excellent effect on improving the bridging density of finished products and shortening the foaming time and temperature of products.
EVA modifier works by creating a positive ion in the solution caused by an oxygen atom from an electrochemical cell. Then, it creates an effective attack on hydrophobic groups in the surface of the product, which acts like a water softener.
The values of EVA modifier are roughly:
– A=50~60mV (v/m at 220°C)
– B=10~15mV, (v/m at 100°C)
– C=10~20mV (v/m at 200°C).
These values can be further adjusted to suit various applications.
Based on these values, you can set the optimal operating temperature of your EVA modifier machine according to your requirement. For example, if you need to soften rubber or plastic with a temperature between 100°C~200°C, use a machine with A value of 10~15 mV and B value of 10~20 mV . If you need to soften rubber or plastic with a temperature between 50°C~100°C , use a machine with A value of 50 mV and B value between 10 mV ~ 15 mV . If you need to soften rubber or plastic with a temperature below 50 °C , use a machine with A value between 10 mV ~ 20 mV and B value between 5 mV ~ 10 mV .  If you need to soften rubber or plastic above 100 °C , use machines with A value between 50 mv & 60 mv .

5. How can I use EVA modifier in my products?

EVA modifier is a multifunctional derivative of enoic acid, which can be used as a foaming aid for rubber and plastics. It has an excellent effect on improving the bridging density of finished products and shortening the foaming time and temperature of products. The modifier is produced in an excellent quality which is easy to use. It can be used in any liquid product in order to shorten the bridging time, it also can improve the non-surface tension of products and it can also improve the water resistance of products without changing their appearance. The product has good solubility, so it doesn’t bother with obvious chemicals and with no adverse effects on the environment or human health.

6. Conclusion

EO has been used as a foaming agent since the beginning of rubber manufacturing. It was also known as white rubber (as opposed to black rubber) in the 19th century, because of its whiteness. The name eva (meaning “white” in Russian) is an acronym for “evaporative water.” Evaporative water is a liquid that forms when moisture evaporates from the surface of a product, such as during condensation, evaporation or simply through use.
Evaporative water has many uses, including foaming agents, rinsing agents, and anti-foaming agents. EVA modifier increases the quality of products and reduces foaming time as well as reducing foam amount and temperature.
Evaporative water has a high boiling point of 78 °C – boiling point is determined by the amount of salt dissolved in the water at different temperatures (from 0 to 140 °C) and processes (from hot to cold). EVA modifier is characterized by its high boiling temperature of 80 °C; it can be used as an anti-foam agent and it also has similar anti-foam effect on products with low or very low viscosity such as natural waxes or mixtures thereof. EVA modifier can be used for all kinds of plastics and rubbers, such as polybutadiene rubber (PBR), butyl rubber (BBR), ABS, TPEs, thermoplastic elastomers, thermosetting resins etc., e.g., for improving the bridging density between two layers during molding process; it can also be used in paints to enhance their adhesion or weatherability; it can also be used for other purposes related to reactive substances such as lubricants or base materials etc..
